INDIANAPOLIS (April 1, 2025) – The transformation of Circle Centre Mall is officially underway as Hendricks Commercial Properties prepares for construction on its $600 million redevelopment. The project will reposition the property as a dynamic, mixed-use, open-air destination, reinforcing downtown Indianapolis as a hub for commerce, living, and entertainment.

The redevelopment begins with an extensive design phase, establishing a master plan for the 2.5-block section of downtown. Newly released conceptual renderings showcase the dramatic transformation, offering a striking comparison between the current landscape and the future vision.

Starting April 1, 2025, the south block of Circle Centre Mall—bordered by Illinois and Meridian Streets and Maryland and Georgia Streets—will close to prepare for construction. This includes the closure of the skywalk connecting the Omni Severin Hotel to the mall. All tenants in this portion of the mall have vacated to make way for the redevelopment.

The mall’s main concourse, food court, streetside restaurants and access to the World of Wonders parking garage will remain open, ensuring continued retail and dining operations.

The redevelopment will introduce 400,000 square feet of restaurant, retail, and entertainment space, along with 100,000 square feet of office space and 300 residential units. Plans also include 100,000 square feet of outdoor public space, transforming the existing enclosed mall into an open, pedestrian-friendly environment. The project will be completed in two phases, with the first phase set for completion in 2030.

Hendricks Commercial Properties—known for projects like Bottleworks District and Ironworks at Keystone, is working in partnership with the City of Indianapolis and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) to bring this vision to life.

“Our goal is to create the true heart of the city—a place that brings energy to downtown Indianapolis every day, not just during major events,” said Rob Gerbitz, CEO of Hendricks Commercial Properties.

“We’re transforming a traditional enclosed mall into an open, pedestrian-friendly destination that fosters connection, activity, and a vibrant urban culture. As we navigate this redevelopment, we appreciate the community’s patience and support. This project is about shaping the future of downtown and creating new opportunities for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.”
