HDG is currently working on the redevelopment of a vacant pots-and-pans factory in West Bend, WI. This is a $92 million, 38-acre project that applies the principles of New Urbanism in this city approximately 35 miles north of Milwaukee. The facility consists of 950,000 sq. ft. of empty building space. Half of this is being retained and redeveloped and the remainder is being built new.
Ultimately, there will be 350 condos/townhouses, 100 apartments, senior housing, and 52,000 sq. ft. of retail, commercial, and office space. The West Bend Riverwalk will extend along the Milwaukee River through the redevelopment project. The Kettle Moraine YMCA opened their satellite facility in one of River Shores' loft buildings in the Fall of 2005.
River Shores will provide what market research indicates the community needs: a community of market rate condominiums, townhouses, and apartments that connect to the downtown area, surrounding neighborhoods, recreational activities, health care facilities, parks, cultural facilities, and municipal services. Creative reuse of the historic buildings, and new construction that evokes a sense of tradition coupled with the best in modern amenities will produce an attractive waterfront living environment.
